Résumé : |
Pastor Trobisch, a Lutheran missionary to Africa, whose wife Ingrid wrote of some of their adventures previously (On Our Way Rejoicing, 1965), has reconstructed a series of his African "marriage" sermons, illustrated by a few rather strident events surrounding them. The marriage talks, given before an increasingly enthusiastic African congregation, offer an interesting Biblical dialectic which accommodates both contemporary psychology (re partnership and sex), and the mores of the local African society. He discussed Christian marriage in a legal, personal and physical sense based on Genesis 2:24, with its application to the concept of polygamy, rights of women and security of children. One cannot dispute Pastor Trobisch's apparent success here, but his merciless recall of conversations and activities (he straightened out his host's marriage, saved a suicide and untangled two unsatisfactory alliances) compels one to wish that he had done a bit less witnessing for Trobisch. But the sermons included should be of interest to laymen and missionaries of an orthodox cast. (Kirkus Reviews) |
