To help the general reader face the apparently futile and increasingly critical human situation, Kenneth S. Wuest, author of this popular series of Greek word studies, goes back to some original sources, secular and sacred, to present a fresh statement of the great truths by which Christ and his disciples taught us to live.
Professor Wuest first gives the reader access to testimonies of some of the ancients who in their records establish the fact and historical uniqueness of Jesus Christ. And by using his great skill in determining the exact shade of meaning of the early Greek texts, he clarifies the heart of the relation of the believer to New Testament truths. In his chapter Jesus and Nicodemus Professor Wuest discusses the full implications of a commitment to Christianity. In The Believer and the Isolation of the Evil Nature he points to the mile-deep reservoir of vagrant instincts and emotions which sway the will beneath man’s thin surface of rationality; and shows how the Christian alone can come into control of them. There are other stimulating chapters on the Christian Idea of Fellowship, of Service and its motivation, and two chapters on the Second Coming and the life after death. |
