Résumé : |
It is painfully evident to those who know the manners and customs of the Bible lands that we Christians of the West are unfamiliar with the Orient. Confusion and mistakes in the interpretation of many passages is the result.
There is no need to deplore inability to visit those distant places in order to gain that knowledge. Here in this textbook, fully documented, we have set before us, most interestingly, the habits of life of the people in Palestine, Syria, Babylonia, Egypt, the Sinai Peninsula and the desert land to the south in relation to the Bible. '‘It will pay the Bible student dividends if he will read his Bible from the Oriental point of view.” One would have to stay in the Orient for years to gather even a fragment of the information you will have in this book. The manuscript readers became so interested in the descriptions of Oriental settings to Bible passages they were loath to lay it down. Ancient civilizations, for centuries veiled in mystery, have been made to live again by exploits of the excavators in Palestine. Many important books in use years ago, on the subject, are out of print and, if not, are out of date. Therefore we hail this wealth of information as something every present-day Bible reader and student will want to possess to shed light upon many puzzling Bible word pictures. |
