Résumé : |
Writing for those about to begin an academic study of the Bible, Kenneth Howkins starts by outlining some modern approaches and different points of view, and considers how the individual Christian may face the challenge given by Religious Studies.
He goes on to tackle the key issues that face Religious Studies students at all levels : the nature of the Bible—God's disclosure or man's discovery ? ; biblical inspiration ; the person of Christ and the resurrection ; miracles and the supernatural ; special problems raised by the Old Testament—moral issues, the ritual laws, etc. ; trends in biblical criticism—textual, literary, form and redaction criticism. In each case the author gives a lucid explanation of the problems, summarizes contemporary views and shows how the student may come to grips with them. In so doing he gives both an invaluable introduction for those about to start a course at college or university, and basic guidelines for all Christians undertaking a serious study of the Bible and concerned to understand current theological views. |
