Résumé : |
With this book, Dr. James Montgomery Boice gives us the third in a tive-votume exposition of the Gospel of John. The first two volumes dealt with the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ into the world and the reaction of some persons to Him (volume 1, John 1 -4) and the origins of the hostility to Jesus that began to develop among the religious authorities (volume 2, John 5 -8). This volume covers John 9-12, the section of the Gospel in which Jesus is seen to be turning to those whom the Father has given Him out of the world and is beginning to teach them.
Dr Boice deviates from a strict verse-by-verse exposition to deal with a particularly important theme in greater depth. The clearest example is the study of John 11:35, the shortest verse in the Bible ("Jesus wept"), to which he has devoted four studies. In a similar manner, he has devoted six studies each to the theme of the Good Shepherd (John 10:1-21) and suffering and death (John 11:4-26). In volumes 1 and 2 extensive study was given to the themes of baptism, witnessing, the Sabbath, and the authority of the Scriptures. Echoes of those themes occur at appropriate places in volume 3. |
