Résumé : |
As Dr. Boice progresses in his study of the Gospel of John, he comes to chapters 13-17, the section that contains probably the best known and most loved words of religious instruction ever uttered by any religious teacher. We have come to the verge of our Lord's suffering and death by crucifixion, and Jesus, knowing this, speaks out of the peace that was His as God. to tell His disciples (and us) how we too may have peace in tribulation. Jesus was not unaware of His suffering, but He had found the secret of peace in storm, or rather that He was Himself the peace in whose shelter those who believe in Him might cluster.
This is the fourth in the five-volume expository commentary on John's Gospel. The questions Dr. Boice asks are: “Do you want peace?" and “Are you willing to receive it at the point where alone Jesus indicates it may truly be found?" Again in this volume Dr. Boice deviates from a strict verse-by-verse exposition to deal with a particularly important theme in greater depth. There are three special studies devoted to the doctrine of heaven, eight studies to the doctrine of the Holy Spirit, and seven studies to the marks of the church enumerated by Jesus in His great high priestly prayer recorded in chapter 17. |
