Résumé : |
With this volume Dr. Boice concludes his five-volume expository commentary on the Gospel of John. In his definitive exposition of chapters 18-21 he discusses our Lord’s arrest, trial, crucifixion, and resurrection in a step-by-step analysis. Beginning with Jesus’ arrest in Gethsemane and ending with His resurrection, this magnificent volume contains word studies as well as studies of theological concepts, cultural implications, and the character of Jesus’ contemporaries.
This volume is not just the message of Christ's triumph. It is an indication of how we can triumph as well. In God’s plan and in accordance with His wisdom, even the worst of that which befalls Christians can be transformed into victory. For that reason the subtitle of this book is “Triumph Through Tragedy." As in the previous volumes, Dr. Boice deviates at times from a strict verse-by-verse exposition in order to consider a subject introduced by the exposition more thoroughly. Two subjects have been treated this way in this volume. The first is the two-part trial of Jesus before the Jewish and Roman authorities. Four studies have been devoted to the Jewish trial (chapters 5-8), and the greater part of twelve studies have been devoted to the trial before Pilate and Herod (chapters 10-21). The second theme is the Atonement. The nature, necessity, perfection, and scope of the Atonement are dișcussed in chapters 27-30. |
