Résumé : |
‘This is that which was spoken by the prophet.’ As the Apostle Peter spoke these words on the Day of Pentecost, he began not only the first public proclamation of the Christian Gospel, but also a controversy which has occupied Christians on all levels right down to the present day. For many have found in the Old Testament a built-in contradiction which, in their view, prevents its fulfilment in the New.
In this book, which is based on the Payton Lectures, given in Fuller Theological Seminary, Pasadena, California, in February, 1968, Prof. Bruce deals with this and other viewpoints. The main theme of the book runs not along the traditional lines of finding N.T. events forecast in the O.T., sometimes in texts divorced from their context so as to become proof texts; but the author concentrates on several patterns and figures which are recurrent in O.T. history and theology and which reach their consummation in the N.T. gospel. He selects in particular those relating to the kingdom of God, the salvation of God. the people of God and the Servant of God. |
