Résumé : |
This is the first of a planned five-volume exposition of the Gospel of John. It evidences a thoroughness that inspires confidence and encourages careful study. One will be delighted to find here not only word studies, but also studies of theological concepts, cultural implications, and the character of various individuals who were contemporaries of Jesus.
Although the book is characterized by competent scholarship, it has a lively style and a warmth and urgency in its message. I Great truths are often illustrated by pertinent and dramatic stories from modern times. Insights into the Word are presented in such a clear and relevant way that the reader will find himself grateful to the authorforsharing them with him. The most important value of this work is its view of Jesus that permeates it throughout: Jesus is the living Christ—God's "best and greatest word to lost men." This first volume introduces the reader to John’s Gospel and expounds the first four chapters. Volume 2 (chapters five through eight) will deal with the hostility to Jesus that began to arise among the religious leaders of His day. In volume 3 (chapters nine through twelve) Jesus will be seen turning to His own and beginning to teach them. Volume 4 (chapters thirteen through seventeen) will cover the final discourse. The last volume (chapters eighteen through twenty-one) will deal with the culmination of Christ's earthly ministry, centering in His betrayal, death and resurrection |
