Résumé : |
Has God cast awy his people?
The first-century church was almost exclusively Jewish. Its members were Jewish. Its faith was in the Jewish Messiah. It believed a message that was preached in a Jewish land. It looked to the Old Testament Scriptures for spiritual understanding of New Testament truth. Then the picture changed. Severe persecution arose and believers were scattered across the Roman empire. Many Jews became bitter opponents of Christianity, and multitudes of Gentiles turned to Christ for salvation. Jewish believers were puzzled by this turn of events and wondered what would happen to the promises God had given to Israel. Would God go back on His word? Would Israel be cast aside in favor of a largely Gentile church? Paul had these questions in mind when he wrote his Epistle to the Romans, and addressed these concerns in chapters 9-11. There he defended the righteousness of God and revealed His plan for restoring Israel to the place of privilege in the future. |
