Résumé : |
If the nineteenth century was the century of missionary expansion, the movement for church unity has been the distinctive ecclesiastical development of the present century. In a spate of books, the ecumenical movement has been considered from almost every conceivable angle. Ecumenism and the Bible, as its title suggests, is one of the few to examine the history and teachings of ecumenism specifically in the light of the Bible.
The author, a distinguished evangelical leader in Sweden, was for some years lecturer in New Testament Introduction at the University of Lund. This book was first published in 1953 in Sweden and provoked wide discussion. It has been carefully revised for a new English edition. In addition, two completely new chapters have been added—on Evangelical Missions in the Age of Ecumenism and The Second Vatican Council. Dr Hedegård is unable to share in the general optimism as to the outcome of the ecumenical movement. His conclusions are unlikely to be popular. They are, however, worthy of serious consideration, being documented from the ecumenical and theological literature of several countries. |
