Joseph Alleine (1634—1668)
While the Puritans are best remembered for the depth of their theological writings it is often forgotten that they were also the originators of evangelistic literature — literature which embodied the message and principles that made their own preaching so powerful 300 years ago. Among the books that belong to this latter class none holds a higher place than this present reprint. Since it was first published in 1671 it has been the means of bringing countless numbers to faith in Christ; it has moulded the thoughts of men like George Whitefield and C. H. Spurgeon and at least one revival of religion has been traced to its circulation. This book will provide the reader with a clear and simple statement of what the Christian Gospel really is. |
