Résumé : |
Subtitled New Light From The Old Greek; there are some who may wonder how it is still possible to find new light in such a well studied text. The work of so many commentators and translators must, they think, have explored every possible shade of meaning. The fruit of their study, published in volumes of every size, down the years...
In answer to such thoughts Dr. Ronald Ward asks rhetorically “Who will be the translators and interpreters of tomorrow?”—the challenge to make the Gospel known to all people in their own language (today, tomorrow and in succeeding generations) demands the best and closest understanding of its message; this understanding can be gained only from the best source, the Greek Testament. Having established a firm claim for continued study of Greek, Dr. Ward writes absorbingly under such heads as Pinpoints (the Greek aorist tense), Panoramas (present and imperfect tenses), Footprints (perfect tense), Self-Interest (the Greek middle voice), Relations (prepositions), Architecture (the compounds), Sunken Treasure (figures of speech) and Near Neighbours (paradoxical phrases). Says Dr. Paul S. Rees in his Introduction: “It is all delightfully done, with a simplicity which is quite remarkable. Ministers, teachers and informed laymen will find the New Testament coming alive in exhilarating fashion as they follow these vivid studies.” |
