Résumé : | In recent years study of Exodus has been enlivened by the methods of tradition-history and form-criticism — this volume surveys the results of such study and assesses how (and how much) new light is shed on this foundation epoch of Israel’s history. History and theology are equally well within the grasp of Professor J. Philip Hyatt who has been writing on topics connected with the period of the Exodus for some years. From this commentary (and the helpful appendix on the Plagues) the careful student is offered an appreciation of the historical problems posed by the book, its theological significance as a witness to Israel’s belief in its divine election, with all the insight and skill that modern scholarship can contribute. |
