All who want their minds to be "captive to the Word of Cod" approach Scripture with the prayer, "Open Thou mine eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of Thy law." We must ask God to pry our eyelids open because preconceived ideas clasp our eyes shut to the plainest truth. Reasonings exalt themselves against the knowledge of God. Only when such unbiblical bias is destroyed can every thought be captivated in obedience to Christ (2 Cor.10:5).
Mr. Zens' book may be a partial answer to your sincere prayer. One prejudice which has held many minds captive and has closed out the light of much of Cod's plain Word is Dispensationalism. The key of Darby and Scofield which has promised to unlock the mysteries of Scripture, has in reality doubled the confusion in many a mind by imposing a bias against plain truth. Mr. Zens' well-documented and carefully-written booklet demonstrates forcefully that Dispensational philosophy is neither Biblical nor useful His historic survey alone should make thoughtful Christians suspicious of a new theology which departs from Spirit-filled saints of many generations. If you have a friend who is bound to this blinding bias, you will welcome a new tool for exposing popular error. I count it a most welcome contribution to the needs of Christ's church. |
